November is Kiwanis family month

By Dave Azwell

Kiwanis is celebrating Kiwanis Family Month in November. With a worldwide membership of 600,000 adults and students, the Kiwanis Family includes adult Kiwanis clubs, Circle K clubs for university students, Aktion Clubs for adults with disabilities, Key Clubs for high school students, Builders Clubs for middle school students and K-Kids for elementary students. Family members promote ideals of voluntary service by giving back to the community they live in.

Builders Club is the largest service organization for middle school students with more than 45,000 members around the world. The first club was chartered in 1975 and today there are more than 1,600 clubs in the USA and other nations around the world. It’s a student-led community service organization that operates under school regulations and draws its members from the student body.

Another Kiwanis Family member is K-Kids which has more than 36,000 members worldwide. It is for elementary school-aged children with a goal of learning about the responsibility of running a K-Kids club, participating in school and community service projects and learning to develop leadership potential.

Osage City Kiwanis has sponsored both Builders Club and K-Kids programs at the local schools for many years. Kiwanis provides funding and materials for both groups as well as faculty advisors who lead the kids in many service leadership endeavors.

If you would like to join the Kiwanis family, now’s the time. OC Kiwanis meetings are held at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Mondays of each month in the Osage City Santa Fe Depot, at Fifth and Market streets. You are cordially invited to stop in. The door is always open!
