Ottawa Suzuki Strings to perform in Overbrook

The Ottawa Suzuki Strings, under the direction of Alice Joy Lewis, will perform the first concert of the 2015-2016 season of the Overbrook Performing Arts Series. The concert will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, 2015, in the Overbrook Public Library Community Room.

In 1966, Lewis formed the Ottawa Suzuki Strings to provide music education to young violinists, violists, and cellists ranging from ages 2 to 20.  As official Kansas ambassadors, the young musicians have performed at the United Nations in New York City, the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in Kansas City, and toured Australia, England, Ireland, Puerto Rico, and the United States.

The Overbrook concert will feature a variety of selections including classical music, a movie medley, hymn medley, and patriotic medley. The public is invited to attend. Admission is by freewill donation to support the concert series. A reception will follow for attendees to greet Lewis and the musicians. Ottawa Suzuki Strings recorded CDs will be available for purchase following the concert.
