Start building your legacy today

By Stephanie Watson

Before the dawn of civilization, man has been trying to defy an absolute truth that applies to all of us universally. Many early civilizations spent tremendous amounts of resources in denial of this absolute truth. Even today, many refuse to accept this truth. Do you know what it is? Are you ready? You can’t take it with you! The great pyramids of Egypt are the most notable examples how man has attempted to take worldly goods and prized possessions into the afterlife.

So, instead of trying to figure out what to take with you, why not spend your time and energy trying to leave something behind? I am talking about leaving a legacy. Few of us are able to build a legacy of fame, immense fortune or have a lasting impact on humanity. But every one of us can leave a legacy that has just as much value as Andrew Carnegie, or Thomas Edison, or other famous people.

For most of us, there is a simple measuring stick that can quantify the best legacy we can leave behind. I pose this to you; how many people will say of you, “He or she has made a positive and lasting impact on my life?” That truly is the best legacy one can leave. Friendship, fellowship, service and sharing builds legacies.

Come join us this week and work on building your legacy here at the Osage County Senior Center, 604 Market St., Osage City, or call 785-528-4906 for more information.
