113015-Larry-BurgessQUENEMO – Larry Lee Burgess, 61, Quenemo, Kan., passed away Friday, Nov. 27, 2015, near Ottawa, Kan.

Larry was born Feb. 2, 1954, in Harlingen, Texas, the son of Charles Wayne and Mabel (Fletcher) Burgess. He grew up and attended schools in Olathe, Kan., where he enjoyed playing football for Olathe North High School.

On Jan. 17, 1973, Larry was united in marriage to Janet Kay Brumett, at Paola, Kan. They were happily married for 42 years until her death on June 23, 2015.

Larry and Janet started their lives together in Paola, later moving to Rolla, Mo., then Ottawa in 1997, and settling in Quenemo in 2010. Larry worked as a mechanic in Olathe, Paola and Osawatomie before his employment with C&L Tractor Sales, in Ottawa. He later worked at Ottawa Walmart in the maintenance department until his retirement in 2013. During his retirement he fixed lawn mowers and worked at Heritage Motors, in Ottawa.

Larry was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan; he enjoyed fishing and spending time with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Janet; two brothers, Raymond and Donnie; and a sister, Joyce.

Larry is survived by two sons, Christopher Lee Burgess and Michael Ray Burgess, both of Quenemo; a brother, Orville Burgess and his wife, Suzy, of La Porte, Texas; and a sister, Shirley Moll and her husband, Leo, of Olathe.

Graveside services and inurnment will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, at Oak Hill Cemetery, Quenemo.
