James Everett Collins, 80, Overbrook: May 22, 1935 – Nov. 30, 2015

Jim CollinsOVERBROOK, Kan. – James (Jim) Everett Collins of Overbrook, Kan., passed away Nov. 30, 2015, at Midland Care Hospice House, in Topeka, Kan. He was born May 22, 1935, at the family farm in Overbrook, the son of Joe Philip Collins and Jennie Livona (Kimble) Collins.

Jim graduated from Overbrook High School in 1953 and Kansas State University in 1958. He married his high school sweetheart, Kay, that same year. They shared 57 wonderful years together. He was a loving and proud husband, father and grandfather.

Jim farmed for several years before transitioning into the agricultural fertilizer and chemicals business until his retirement. He and Kay moved from Overbrook to Lakeland, Fla., and then Little Rock, Ark., before returning to the family farm in 2004. He loved life and learning. With his curious mind and skilled hands, he was always reading, researching, and fixing things. He was a fan of auto racing, was particularly interested in air and space flight, enjoyed music, travel, the outdoors, and delighted in his family.

He is survived by his wife, Kay Yuvonne Wadsworth Collins; daughters and sons-in-law Sandy (Collins) and Jim Warren, Berryton, Kan., and DeAnn (Collins) and Roger Dockery, Winfield, Kan.; grandchildren, Jennifer Kay Warren, Eric James Warren, Ian James Collins Dockery and Lilah Grace Collins Dockery; sister, Janice (Jon) Isch, Sabetha, Kan.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Anna Mae Kapelle and Delores Friesen; brother, Dr. Robert Collins; and grandson, Samuel Christian Collins Dockery.

The family will greet friends 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, at the Overbrook United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 4, at the church. Burial will follow in the Overbrook Cemetery.
