Charles Junior Goracke, 85, Pomona: June 10, 1930 – Dec. 8, 2015

POMONA – Charles Junior (Bud) Goracke, 85, Pomona, Kan., passed away Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2015, at his home. He was born June 10, 1930, in Smith County, Kansas, the son of Charlie Thomas and Isa Mable (Kirkendall) Goracke. He grew up and attended rural school in Smith County.

Bud was united in marriage to Phyllis Arlene Burge on July 25, 1948, in Smith Center, Kan. They shared more than 67 years of marriage.

Bud worked on the family farm near Smith Center. In 1956, he moved to Tulsa, Okla., where he began his career as a carpenter. He moved to Pomona in 1960. He worked for Cook Construction and List and Clark Construction companies as a carpenter, where he helped build Pomona, Clinton and Perry lakes. He also worked for Frisbee Bridge Company of Topeka, Kan., retiring in 1992.

He was a member of the Assembly of God Church, Pomona; and member of the United Brotherhood Carpenters and Joiners of America Local 1445.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Jim Goracke.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, of the home; a son, Joe Goracke of Pomona; a daughter, Gwenda Schmitt, WaKeeney, Kan.; two sisters, Dolores Booton, Pomona, and Connie Love, Excelsior Springs, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Susan Goracke, Williamsburg, Kan.; four grandsons, Brandon Palmer, Garnett, Kan., Andrew Goracke, Pomona, Cody Goracke, Leroy, Kan., and Deric Schmitt, Amarillo, Texas; two granddaughters, Heather Moore, Topeka, and Amber Bourell, Hutchinson, Kan.; and 15 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 11, at the Assembly of God Church, 219 E. 4th Street, Pomona. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
