Rollover accident injures passenger on icy I-35

A Honduras man was injured in a one-vehicle rollover crash on Interstate 35 near Waverly Monday morning.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Marlon Amaya, 41, of Wichita, was driving a 2003 Chevrolet van around 8:51 a.m. Dec. 28, northbound on I-35 about four miles north of Waverly. Amaya lost control of the vehicle on the ice covered roadway, and the van entered the ditch on the south shoulder of I-35 and overturned onto its top.

A passenger in the vehicle, Ricardo Adan Garcia, 35, Honduras, was injured in the accident and transported to Ransom Memorial Hospital, Ottawa. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

Another passenger, Mario Antonio Cortez-Constanza, 42, Wichita, and Amaya were not injured in the accident. Both were wearing seatbelts.

The vehicle was towed from the scene.
