Jack L. Wilson, 77, Pomona: Aug. 31, 1938 – Dec. 31, 2015

010516-Jack-WilsonPOMONA, Kan. – Jack L. Wilson, 77, of Pomona, Kan., passed away Thursday, Dec. 31, 2015, at Ransom Memorial Hospital, Ottawa, Kan.

Jack was born Aug. 31, 1938, in Ottawa, the son of John W. Wilson and Eupha M. (Cole) Wilson. He grew up and graduated from Pomona High School in 1956. He enjoyed playing football for the Pomona Pirates high school team.

Jack attended Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kan., before entering the United States Navy on April 23, 1957. He served aboard the USS Putnam as an instrument man before being honorably discharged on Jan. 20, 1961.

On Jan. 15, 1965, he was united in marriage to Janiece Loree Showalter, in Topeka, Kan. They shared more than 50 years of marriage.

Jack retired as a supervisor of information technology for Northrop Grumman Corporation, in Topeka. He was a member of B.P.O.E. 803 Ottawa Elks Club. He enjoyed camping with his family and friends. He was a volunteer at Pomona State Park for many years. He was a licensed airplane pilot. He also enjoyed raising livestock and playing cards.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Jan, of Pomona, and his daughter, Amy Wilson, Topeka.

To celebrate Jack’s life, a visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2015, at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, 325 S. Hickory, Ottawa.
