Dorothy Sayles, 89, Topeka: Jan. 30, 1926 – Jan. 5, 2016

010716-saylesTOPEKA, Kan. – Dorothy Sayles, 89, of Topeka, Kan., passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016, at Stormont-Vail Hospital, in Topeka. She was born Jan. 30, 1926, in Saint, Joseph, Mo.

She graduated from Topeka High School. She worked for the Kansas Department of Health, Department of Vital Statistics, prior to retiring. Dorothy taught sewing at area 4-H clubs. She was a member of Community Church and the church’s senior group. She loved to travel with her family.

Dorothy was married to Robert Dale “Bob” Sayles on April 7, 1951, at Ozawkie, Kan.

Survivors include her daughter, Ruth L. Norris, Topeka; son, Robert “Bob” K. Sayles and wife, Shirley, Lyndon, Kan.; grandchildren, Gina Norris-Ray, Robin Norris-Courtot, Susan Williams and husband, Mike, Elizabeth McKinley, Angela Cormier and Josh, Chad Walter, Harley K. Sayles, Dalayna Hicks, K.C. Majors and Nicole; 22 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Evelyn Barngrover and Carolyn Ralph; and brother, Kenneth Bingham.

Preceding her in death are brothers Neville Bingham, George Bingham, Jack Bingham, Robert Bingham, Sylvan Bingham and Allen Bingham, and her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 11, at Community Church, in Topeka. Interment will follow in Rochester Cemetery. Mrs. Sayles will lie in state 1-6 p.m. Sunday at Davidson Funeral Home, 1035 N. Kansas Ave., Topeka, where the family will receive friends 3-5 p.m.
