Gene A. Hanner, 85, Overbrook: Oct. 21, 1930 – Feb. 3, 2016

OVERBROOK, Kan. – Gene A. Hanner, 85, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016, at the Brookside Retirement Community, Overbrook, Kan. He was born Oct. 21, 1930, in St. Joseph, Mo., the son of Earl and Alma Townsend Hanner.

Gene grew up in St. Joseph, and he had lived on the farm near Overbrook for the last 45 years.

He was a truck driver for North American Van Lines, for Ed Marlings, Topeka, and the Overbrook Co-op, and worked for the township as a road grader and dump truck driver. He had served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.

On May 2, 1953, Gene was married to JoAnn Richwine, in St. Joseph.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Alma; a sister, Virginia Bentley; and a granddaughter, Mariah Lehrbach.

Gene is survived by his wife, JoAnn, of 62 years; two sons, Ron Hanner, Overbrook, and David Hanner, Osage City; two daughters, Patricia Ficklin, Tecumseh, and Cynthia Wagner, Carbondale; and five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8, at the Feltner Funeral Chapel, Lyndon. Inurnment will be in the Valley Brook Cemetery, south of Overbrook. The family will receive friends 30 minutes before services on Monday.
