Ruby Mae Hitt, 88, Topeka: June 11, 1927 – Feb. 2, 2016

TOPEKA, Kan. – Ruby Mae (Wunderlich) Hitt, 88, passed away on Feb. 2, 2016. She was at the Midland House, Topeka, Kan., at her time of passing. She had been residing at an Osage City, Kan., nursing facility.

Ruby was born in Newton, Kan., at the Newton Memorial Hospital, on June 11, 1927, to Emma (Kater) and Carl Wunderlich. She was the oldest of 15 siblings. She was raised on a dairy farm near Piedmont, Kan.

Ruby met her future husband, Cleo B. Hitt, on Easter in 1947, they were married the following year on Oct. 7, 1948, at the Fredonia, Kan., courthouse.

Ruby is survived by her son, Roger Hitt and wife, Linda, of Omaha, Neb.; daughter, Vicki Brewer and husband, Ron, Admire, Kan.; six grandchildren, Brooks Hitt, Lincoln, Neb., Libby Hitt and her husband, Bobby Coyle, Philadelphia, Pa., Amanda Hitt, Dallas, Texas, Melissa Gragg-Scheckel and her husband, Mike Scheckel, Osage City, Carey Jordan and husband, Kelly, Berryton, Kan., and Shaun Tevis and wife, Sara Bruce, Admire; seven great-grandchildren, Dietrich and Audrey Hitt, Anthony, Devin, Cameron and Tyson Gragg, and Brooklyn Jordan; and a sister, Grace Wiseman, Howard, Kan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband Cleo B. Hitt, who passed away on March 23, 2015.

Family will greet friends for a visitation 6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, at Greenwood-Roberts Funeral Home, Overbrook, Kan. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 6, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Overbrook Cemetery.
