Ruby Ione Monroe, 96, Osage City: Nov. 19, 1919 – Feb. 14, 2016

Ruby Ione Monroe, 96, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016, at St. Francis Hospital, in Topeka. She was born on Nov. 19, 1919, on the family farm near Melvern, the daughter of Oscar and Hazel Goldsmith Beck.

Ione had lived in Plainville for many years and then in Hays, before moving to Osage City in 1997.

Ione had been a homemaker all of her life. She was a former member of the Plainville United Methodist Church.

Ione was married to Myrlin Monroe on Dec. 21, 1941, in Melvern.

Ione was preceded in death by her husband, Myrlin, in 1996; son, Theron, in 2012; daughter, Deanna Hickey, in 2012; daughter-in-law, Carol Monroe; three brothers, Oscar Beck, Elmer Beck and Freeman Beck; two sisters, Velma and Wiona; granddaughter, Carla Monroe; and a great-grandson, Quinton.

She is survived by her son, Darrell (Eldena) Monroe, of Berryton; son-in-law, Gary Hickey, Osage City; brother, Russell Beck, Emporia; two sisters, Anita Faulkner, Osage City, and Irene Sattler, Newton; three grandchildren, Darrin (Kelly) Monroe, Lawrence, David (Jennifer) Monroe, Berryton, and Myra Monroe, Plainville; and 11 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.


Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, at Feltner Funeral Chapel, Lyndon. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services.
