Wichita police issue Amber Alert for 2 children

Update 11:25 a.m.: The children have been located and are safe.  The suspect is still at large and the Wichita Police Department’s investigation into the suspect’s whereabouts continues. The Amber Alert has been cancelled.


The Wichita Police Department has issued an Amber Alert notice for a two young girls, Layla Hatcher, 5, and Lilly Hatcher, 2, reported to have been taken by David Hatcher, 24, from a Wichita, Kan., hotel.

Police reported that David Hatcher took Layla and Lilly by force from the Days Inn Hotel, 7321 E. Kellogg, Wichita, at approximately 1 a.m. today. Police believe that Layla and Lilly are in imminent danger, and the public is being asked to assist in finding them.

David Hatcher was last seen wearing black jeans, a black hoodie, and black shoes, driving a blue 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis, with an Arkansas temporary tag, front end and passenger side damage, and tinted windows. Hatcher is described as a black male, 5 feet 9 inches tall, 160 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

Layla is 4 feet 3 inches tall, weighs 50 pounds, has black hair and brown eyes; Lilly is 2 feet 5 inches tall, 30 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Both were last seen at the hotel.

Anyone who might have seen a missing child, the suspect, or the suspect’s vehicle is advised to call 911 immediately. Anyone with any information about a missing child should call 911 or Wichita Police at 316-383-4661. For more information, see  www.ksamber.org.
