KBI: Former Osawatomie police chief in custody in Council Bluffs, Iowa

OSAWATOMIE, Kan. – Robert Butters, former Osawatomie Police Department chief of police, has been arrested on charges filed by the Miami County Attorney, according to a press release issued today by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.

The KBI reports that charges stem from an incident that happened Feb. 16, 2016, in the Osawatomie area. Butters was arrested for aggravated intimidation of a witness, attempted interference with a law enforcement officer, and possession of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol and or drugs. He is being held on $250,000 bond in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

The Miami County Sheriff’s Office, Osawatomie Police Department and the KBI continue to investigate this matter. The KBI release stated that no further information will be released at this time “to preserve the sanctity of the investigation.”
