Osage City police find, disable explosives; one arrested

OSAGE CITY, Kan. – The Osage City Police Department has reported on its Facebook page that an Osage City resident was arrested on charges of criminal use of explosive devices on March 9, 2016, but the public was not in danger at any time.

According to the police department’s post, at approximately 7:25 p.m., officers of the Osage City Police Department investigated a person possessing homemade explosive devices at 403 N. Fifth St., Osage City, where they arrested William F. Parks, 55.

Osage City Police Chief Fred Nech said that charges are pending against Parks for criminal use of explosive devices after several small explosive devices were located at the residence. With assistance of the Topeka Police Bomb Squad, those devices were safely disabled, the chief said.

“After examining the devices it was determined if detonated there was not enough explosive material to harm persons outside the residence,” Nech said in the post. “There was no evacuation and at no time were others outside the residence in jeopardy from the devices.”
