Emporia Community Chorus to sing in Osage City

The Osage City Area Arts Council will present the Emporia Community Chorus in concert on at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 7, in the First Presbyterian Church, 202 S. Sixth St., Osage City.

The Emporia Community Chorus is comprised of about 50 singers from Emporia and the surrounding community from all walks of life. The chorus is a non-audition group made up of local singers and ESU students who share a common love of singing and a passion for great choral music. They sing a wide variety of music, and have performed throughout the Emporia area, including community events and the Habitat for Humanity concert each spring.

The chorus is directed by Jake Narverud who is the director of choral activities at ESU, which include the chorus, the A Cappella Choir and Chamber Choir. He also teaches courses in choral methods and conducting at ESU. A native of Meriden, Narverud has earned degrees from ESU, the UMKC Conservatory of Music and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Kansas University. An active guest conductor, clinician, composer and arranger, Narverud serves as the composer-in-residence with the Allegro Choirs of Kansas City.

Everyone is invited to attend this evening of choral music. Admission is by free will donation.
