Howard Lilly, 95, Melvern: Aug. 8, 1920 – March 20, 2016

MELVERN, Kan. – Howard Lilly, 95, passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2016, at the home of his daughter in Burlington, Kan. He was born on Aug. 8, 1920, on the family farm southeast of Melvern, Kan., the son of Clarence and Susie Cade Lilly.

Howard had lived all of his life near the Melvern community, where he was a farmer and stockman. He was a member of the Melvern United Methodist Church, a 69-year member of the Melvern Lodge No. 22 A.F.&A.M. where he had been past Worshipful Master, a life member of the Kansas Livestock Association, a committee board member of the ASCS, and served on the Melvern Cemetery Board for many years.

On Dec. 12, 1942, Howard was married to LaVerna Lewis, in Topeka, Kan.

He was preceded in death by his wife, LaVerna, on Nov. 6, 2009; three sisters, Audrey Lilly, Vera Stevens and Ora Chadbourn; and brother, Warren Lilly.

Howard is survived by his three daughters, Barbara Pierce, Burlington, Deanna Anderson (Doug), Scranton, and Jody Lilly, Prescott, Ariz.; five granddaughters; and nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 26, at the Melvern United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Melvern Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, at the Feltner Funeral Chapel, Lyndon.
