Quenemo man killed in K-68 accident Saturday

A Quenemo man was killed in a single-vehicle accident Saturday evening on state Highway 68 near the Osage-Franklin county line, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office reported in a press release that about 7 p.m. Saturday, James LeWayne Mietchen, 37, of Quenemo, Kan., was driving westbound on K-68 in a 2002 Mercury Cougar, when the vehicle left the roadway for an unknown reason. The vehicle returned to the roadway and overturned onto its top.

Mietchen, who was the sole occupant in the vehicle, was killed in the crash. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, the sheriff’s office reported.

In addition to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, the Pomona Fire Department also responded to the accident scene just east of Alabama Road, which is the county line. K-68 was closed for about three hours while the accident was investigated.
