See what’s on the menu and have a ‘Taste of Osage City’ Friday

There’s something about Smoke in the Spring that just makes you think about eating fine barbecue, but the Taste of Osage City, this Friday evening, April 8, 2016, provides a chance for everyone to savor the culinary experiences cooked up by competition barbecue chefs. Although the barbecue contestants’ main goal is producing the best barbecued chicken, pork, ribs and brisket for the contest the following day, 24 teams are showing up Friday prepared to feed a crowd a multitude of creative gastronomic delights.

Map out your supper

The cooks begin serving at 5 p.m. Friday at the north end of Jones Park, and continue “until the food runs out.” To help hungry eaters find those mouthwatering treats they crave most, a menu is offered showing the participating cooking teams and the evening’s entrees they are preparing, along with a map showing the locations of each team. Click here for a printable version of the menu to carry with you at the Taste of Osage City. Menus and maps will also be available the evening of the Taste.

BBQ Bucks – Get in advance or on site

For anyone wanting to take part in the Taste, it is advised to buy BBQ Bucks in advance. They’re available at Osage City Hall, 201 S. Fifth St., and Edward Jones, 516 Market St., Osage City. BBQ Bucks will also be available for sale at Jones Park on Friday, beginning at 2 p.m. at the community building concession window. This year, new BBQ Bucks are being issued, but all of the past green BBQ Bucks remain valid and can be used Friday or in the future at Smoke in the Spring.

Shuttle from the school parking lot

Arrangements have been made this year to alleviate parking congestion around the park. A transport bus will run 4-9 p.m. on Friday, April 8, from the Osage City school parking lot at Ellinwood and Fourth streets. Everyone is invited to park at the school and ride the bus to the Taste (bus rides end at 9 p.m.) Parking west of Jones Park and across the highway from the sports complex is also available; limited handicap parking is available by the home side bleachers.

Fill up!

With BBQ Bucks, menu and map in hand, once 5 p.m. arrives, it’s time to set out to find some supper! Sure there might be lines to wait in, but that’s part of the fun at Osage City’s community barbecue party. So get in line, let a barbecue contestant serve you something tasty to munch on, and have a fun evening at the Taste of Osage City!
