Glenda Yvonne Allen, 76, Overbrook: July 1, 1939 – April 5, 2016

OVERBROOK, Kan. – Glenda Yvonne Allen, 76, of Overbrook, Kan., passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at Hillsdale Assisted Living, Topeka, Kan.

She was born July 1, 1939, the daughter of Virgil Eugene and Louise (Pardels) Cook. She was raised by her grandparents and graduated from Topeka High School in 1957.

Glenda was united in marriage to Gene M. Allen on Feb. 14, 1959. They shared more than 43 years of marriage before the death of her husband on Feb. 10, 2003.

They moved to Overbrook in 1973, where she was a homemaker. Glenda later worked as head cook for the Overbrook Grade School. 

Glenda was a member of Carbondale Church of Christian Fellowship, Carbondale, Kan. She enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, going on Saturday trips, crocheting, listening to country music, watching hummingbirds, and was an avid KU basketball fan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gene M. Allen; a daughter, Cheryl Lynn Hoffman; and two sisters, Norma Massey and Wanda Christopher.

Glenda is survived by a daughter, Paula (Tim) Buckner, Overbrook; a son, Marshall Scott, Topeka; five grandchildren, Lucas, Chelsey, Lacey, Bryce, and Brett; seven great-grandchildren, Noah, Maci, Allicia, Haley, Layla, Marshall and Hunter; and loving nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Glenda’s life will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 8, at Carbondale Church of Christian Fellowship, 430 Commercial St., Carbondale. Interment will follow at Overbrook Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the Carbondale Church of Christian Fellowship.
