Dorothy Virginia Goff Karnes, 89, Overbrook: April 9, 1927 – April 22, 2016

OVERBROOK – Dorothy Virginia (Desque) Goff Karnes, 89, of Overbrook, Kan., passed away peacefully Friday, April 22, 2016, at Brookside Retirement Community, Overbrook. Dorothy was born April 9, 1927, in Douglas County, Kan., southwest of Overbrook, the daughter of Charles and Eleanor (Schamle) Desque.

She attended Lickskillet Grade School and graduated from Overbrook Rural High School in 1944. She worked at West Central Area YMCA and Whelans Lumber, in Topeka, Kan. She later worked for Tutcher Magic Gas, Overbrook.

Dorothy married George William Goff on Dec. 20, 1946. He passed away Dec. 17, 1968. She married Marshall B. Karnes on July 3, 1974. He passed away Dec. 3, 2002.

She was preceded in death by a son, Gary Michael Goff, who passed away Nov. 8, 1975; her sister, Irene Heberling and husband, Carl.

Survivors include her daughter, Nancy Kay (Goff) Pudwill and husband, Terry Pudwill; a granddaughter; and two nephews, Ron Heberling and wife, Mary, and Don Heberling and wife, Jan. She also had other nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was a member of Busy Bee Club; Richland Flower Club and a 61-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Overbrook. She enjoyed baking, entered foods in fairs, and loved flowers, gardening, camping, traveling, crafts and quilting. She taught sewing in North Osage 4-H Club.

A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Lickskillet School and American Legion Auxiliary and sent in care of Greenwood-Roberts Funeral Home, PO Box 286, Overbrook, KS 66524. Condolences may be sent to the family through
