Eldon R. “Stubby” Colson Sr., 75, Lyons: Nov. 16, 1940 – May 19, 2016

LYONS, Kan. – Eldon R. “Stubby” Colson Sr., 75, died May 19, 2016, at Hospice House, Hutchinson, Kan. He was born Nov. 16, 1940, in Hamlet, Neb., to Omar and Leatha Stock Colson.

He graduated from Cambridge (Nebraska) High School in 1958, and joined the U.S. Army and served three years stationed in Germany.

He was a longtime resident of Lyons and Geneseo. He worked as a machinist most of his career at Lyons Manufacturing and Gustus Manufacturing, Geneseo. He was a pork producer and owned a custom haying business. He retired from APAC Shears.

He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 7422, Lyons, and Geneseo American Legion Post 241.

Married Phyllis Berblinger Dec. 26, 1964, in Lyons.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis, of the home; two sons, J. R. and Marilla Colson, Salina, Kan., and Wesley and Carol Colson, Burlingame, Kan.; three daughters, Candi and Bruce Almquist, Inman, Kan., Diane and Wes Staples, Schoenchen, Kan., and Teresa Noonan, Burlingame; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Marvin and Charlene Colson, Bartley, Neb., Kenny and Sheila Colson and Jerry and Louise Colson, all of Cambridge, Neb.; sister, Connie and Dean Reeser, Eau Claire, Wis.; mother-in-law, Joanne Arie, Buhler, Kan.; brothers-in-law, Leslie and Susan Berblinger, Jon and Krista Berblinger, all of Goddard, Kan.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Wiley Colson.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 25, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Lyons, with Father Robert Spencer officiating. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons. Burial will be in the Lyons Municipal Cemetery with military honors by the Ft. Riley honor guard.
