Lyndon Legion to present colors at local cemeteries on Memorial Day

LYNDON – At the May 22, 2016, meeting of American Legion Post 125, Lyndon, Legionnaires swore in new officers, awarded some 50-year membership certificates, and planned more for the future.

Bryce Romine, a past commander, swore in Commander Danny Roush, Vice Commander Lou Wohlitz and Adjutant/Finance Officer Geri Thomas. Appointed as Sergeant-at-Arms is Lou Ogle. Debbie Romine will return as veteran service officer.

Lyndon Legion Memorial Day flag ceremonies: 10 a.m. at Lyndon Cemetery, 10:30 a.m. at Vassar Cemetery, 11 a.m. at Pomona Dam (with other area Legions), and 11:30 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery, Quenemo.

After the swearing in, the post conducted its monthly meeting, which included an update on upcoming and ongoing activities. Roush and Ogle updated on the post remodel, which is coming along fast with removal of old material from the building. As this project continues we hope to raise funds to finish.

Memorial Day plans have been finalized. Flag ceremonies for Lyndon Legion are 10 a.m. at Lyndon Cemetery, 10:30 a.m. at Vassar Cemetery, 11 a.m. at Pomona Dam (with other area Legions), and 11:30 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery, Quenemo.

American Legion Post 125 plans to keep up the hard work in the community by participating in many events this summer, including Memorial Day activities, Flag Day, parades, reading program involvement, and more fundraising. All funding goes to the future remodel of the post and community activities. The post is also in the midst of starting Legion Riders. To join you must be a member of American Legion, Sons of the American Legion, or Auxiliary.
