William Ralph Thompson, 89, Pomona: Sept. 24, 1926 – June 1, 2016

POMONA, Kan. – William Ralph Thompson, 89, of Pomona, Kan., passed away peacefully surrounded by family Wednesday, June 1, 2016, at his home. He was born Sept. 24, 1926, in Burlingame, Kan., the son of Ralph and Ruby (Tindell) Thompson.

Bill grew up and attended Burlingame and Scranton, Kan., schools. He served our country from 1944 to 1946 in the United States Marine Corps during World War II.

He married Eva Herrill on June 19, 1947, in Topeka, Kan. They shared over 54 wonderful years together before her passing in 2011. 

Bill was a carpenter. He was a 55-year member of Carpenters Local 1445, Topeka. He also was a member of American Legion Post 60, Ottawa, Kan., and Ottawa Lodge No. 18, A.F. & A.M.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Eva; two brothers, Bob and Jerry Thompson; and a great-grandson, Issac Thompson.

He is survived by three sons, Gary Thompson, of Pomona, Larry Thompson and wife, Kathy, Ottawa, and Jeff Thompson and wife, Terri, Pomona; two daughters, Linda Gilges and husband, Brad, Pomona, and Cheryl Turner and husband, Steve, Overbrook, Kan.; a sister, Ilda Strebbin and husband, George, Ottawa; a half-sister, Paula Huss, Princeton, Kan.; and 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

He will be cremated; no services are planned at this time. The family suggests memorial contributions to Midland Hospice and sent in care of Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, PO Box 14, Ottawa, KS 66067. Condolences to family may be sent through www.lamb-roberts.com.
