David E. Oates, 59, Topeka: Sept. 26, 1956 – June 6, 2016

TOPEKA, Kan. – David E. Oates, 59, of Topeka, passed away Monday, June 6, 2016 at his sister’s home after a long illness. David was born Sept. 26, 1956, in Salina, Kan., the son of Cline and Maxine Steudte Oates.

He married Frances Tindell, they later divorced. He worked as a handyman for Bales Flea Market, Topeka.

David is survived by three sons, David (Joyce) Oates II, Timothy Oates, and Dustin Oates, all of Topeka; a brother, Edward “Gene” Gardner, Topeka; four sisters, Charlotte V. Gardner, Topeka, Frances D. Roles, Holton, Carol E. Welch, Topeka, and Jeanenne Mohr, along with five grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, June 10, at the Burlingame Cemetery, Burlingame. He will lie in state 1-8 p.m. Thursday with visitation 7-8:30 p.m. at Davidson Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Shelter, Midland Hospice or the Topeka Rescue Mission, and sent in care of the Davidson Funeral Home, 1035 N. Kansas Ave., Topeka, KS 66608-1241.
