County’s fair season kicks off with Melvern’s Sunflower Days 4-H Fair

Thursday, the Melvern Sunflower Days 4-H Fair, June 23-25, 2016, will begin Osage County’s fair season. In addition to 4-H and FFA exhibitors, lined up is Toby’s Carnival Inc. providing amusement rides all three nights, along with a baby show, bingo all three nights, scavenger hunt, kids’ races, the Army National Guard climbing wall, and a grand parade on Saturday night. Here is the updated schedule:

Thursday, June 23

6 p.m. – Baby show at Melvern Community Center
6 p.m. – Carnival by Toby’s (Pre-sales tickets for carnival rides are $15. Tickets will be $20 each after June 22); Army National Guard climbing wall
7 p.m. – Homemade ice cream at Melvern Community Center
8 p.m. – Bingo

Friday, June 24

4-8 p.m. – Scavenger hunt at the Veterans Park, all ages and great prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd ($5 registration fee)
5-7 p.m. – 4-H exhibitor registration
6 p.m. – Carnival by Toby’s; Army National Guard climbing wall
6:30 p.m. – Goat show followed by sheep show
7 p.m. – Homemade ice cream at Melvern Community Center
8 p.m. – Bingo; “ Jaded Fury”, featuring Stephanie Rice-Ferris, at City Park basketball court

Saturday, June 25

8 -9:30 a.m. – Exhibitor registration
9 a.m. – Swine show
9 a.m.-12 p.m. – Free skin cancer and prostrate screening at Melvern Church of God.  Arts and crafts at the church.
9 a.m. – Kids races at Melvern baseball fields followed by old fashioned games
10:30 a.m. – Judging of halls
11:30 a.m. – Bucket calf show followed by dairy show and beef show
1 p.m. FACS judging
4-8 p.m. – Help House silent auction at Melvern Community Center
6 p.m. – Carnival by Toby’s
7 p.m. – Parade with theme of “Spirit of America”; homemade ice cream at Melvern Community Center
8 p.m. – Bingo
9 p.m.-12 a.m. -Dance with DJ at Melvern Community Center, $2 admission, $20 per cooler, ID required
