Osage City Chamber offers family fun during Osage County Fair

Summer’s in full swing along with fair season in Osage County. As one county fair finished up last weekend at Melvern, the Osage County Fair at Osage City is building up steam for another week of fair excitement.

As always, the Osage City Chamber of Commerce will host the annual fair parade on Thursday evening, but the group has also partnered with the fair board to offer some new fun activities at this year’s fair.

“We have a lot of fun things planned and I can’t wait to see you all there,” said Chandra Dunbar, volunteer parade chairman and event organizer for the Chamber.

The 2016 Osage County Fair Parade begins at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 30, along Market Street. The parade theme is “Remember When”, celebrating days gone by and the great traditions of our community. Any church, coworkers, civic group, sports team, family, or individuals are invited to sign up to be a part of the parade. To register for the parade or for more information, contact Dunbar at [email protected].

The Chamber has announced this year’s parade grand marshal will be Arlo Bell, who has written a history column for local newspapers for many years. Announced as the 2016 Mr. and Mrs. Osage City were Dave and Tara Azwell, longtime Osage City community supporters.

Kiddie parade

In addition, prior to the fair parade will be a kiddie parade. All kids are invited to line up at the corner of Fifth and Market streets and parade down Market Street starting at 6:15 p.m. The kids will parade down Market Street to the corner of Seventh and Market streets, where they will turn around and head back to finish where they started. Kids can come dressed in costume, riding bikes, in a wagon pulled by their parents or whatever they would like to do. Remember the parade theme is “Remember When”.

Friday night entertainment

Also, the Chamber is inviting everyone to the fairgrounds on Friday, July 1, where the group will host the Kansas National Guard’s 35 Infantry Division Rock Band, which will be playing at 7:30 p.m. The rock band is part of the Kansas Army National Guard’s official band, which is presenting its annual “A Home Front Concert” series this week through July 7, at concerts in communities across the state.

Following the concert, several local businesses will be set up to meet and greet their customers for a business fair, followed by the Chamber and several sponsors showing a free outdoor screening of the classic summer baseball movie, “The Sandlot”. The movie, business fair and the band are all free and will be located near the new 4-H pavilion in Jones Park.

“It is going to be a great couple of nights at the fair presented by the Osage City Chamber of Commerce!” Dunbar said. “Join us!”
