Help House News: Join the fan club!

By Raylene Quaney

It is very busy at Help House this time of year. The Fan Club is in full swing. Collections are being taken now for the fan give away this month. At present we have 20 requests for fans. Individuals or families with a need may still sign up. If you would like to help those in need stay more comfortable in the summer heat, please drop new fans off at Help House during regular hours. Do not leave them out in the shed. The Fan Club will continue through July and August.

School supplies collection, distribution

It is time for us to collect school supplies as well as new underwear and socks for boys and girls to receive to get ready to go back to school. Help House will be coordinating again this year with ECKAN for the school supply give away. Sign up at ECKAN through July 15; proof of income for everyone in the household is required. Help House will hold its school supply give away the second week of August.

Kids in the kitchen

Harvesters and Help House once again hosted “Kids in the Kitchen” with an average of 15 attending the sessions during the month of June. Children were given the opportunity to “travel the world” by making a food from different countries each day they participated, as well as learning interesting facts about each country they “visited”. Help House provided lunch and the volunteers to work with the children. Sarah Karns with Harvesters presented the 90-minute program.

Thanks!

Donations have been received for the Food Pantry from two local Bible school programs. Thank you to both Lyndon United Methodist Church and Michigan Valley Community Church for your help.

Melvern Sunflower Days silent auction

There was a great turnout for the Melvern Sunflower Days Fair and a number of participants for the silent auction held by Help House. The next opportunity to pick up some great deals will be at the Overbrook fair August 13, when we hold another silent auction. The silent auctions are the two main fundraisers for this ministry so we appreciate the generous donations and gifts to be put up for bid, and the bidders who are very generous as well.
