Democrat state representative candidates await official results to determine winner

A Democratic race for state representative is hinged on provisional ballots cast in the Aug. 2, 2016, primary election in Coffey, Osage and Lyon counties. This morning, in the Democratic race for Kansas House District 76, the vote count stood at 395 votes for Kelly Atherton and 389 votes for Teresa Briggs. Election officials in the district that includes all of Coffey County and portions of Osage and Lyon counties were determining today the number of provisional ballots yet to be counted. The winner of the Democratic race will compete against Republican Eric Smith for the House seat in the November election.

In other statewide and national races, Osage County voters tended to vote with the majority of the state.
