Déjà vu all over again: Pomona State Park goes retro

There aren’t many places you can see a car show and a vintage camping trailer show all at one time.  Well, you can on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016, at Pomona State Park.

During the third annual Going Retro vintage camper display and car show, visitors will be able to look at old cars and tour and see inside the vintage camping trailers, talk to the owners, and remember a long-ago time.  As of this week, there are 38 camping trailers registered to attend the event.

Spectators will be able to vote for their favorites for the People’s Choice Award.

Uniqueness to the car show is the Rangers’ Choice award.  It is a large metal cut-out of the winner’s own vehicle, provided by artist Ted Craig, of Prairie Fire Metal Arts. Other prizes will be given for the peoples’ choice and top five.  Registration begins at 8 a.m. for vehicles at $10 each, awards will be presented at 1:30 p.m., and a cruise will start shortly after the awards.

The retro car and vintage trailer show, which will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., is coordinated by Friends of Pomona State Park and Pomona State Park. The concession stand will open at 9 a.m. with coffee and cinnamon rolls, and will remain open until 2 p.m.  Lunch menu will include hot dogs and pulled pork sandwiches.

Vehicle owners, all makes and models, car enthusiasts, vintage camping trailer owners, those interested in seeing the vintage cars and camping trailers, and those just wanting to get some exercise outdoors are all invited.

There is no charge to attend the camper and car show, but a daily or annual vehicle permit is required to enter the state park ($5 daily).
