Carol Michael, 80, Osage City: Dec. 17, 1935 – Aug. 18, 2016

OSAGE CITY, Kan. – Carol Michael, 80, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 18, 2016, at Osage Nursing Center, Osage City, Kan. She was born on Dec. 17, 1935, on the family farm southwest of Lyndon, Kan., the daughter of Floyd and Irene Griffith Peterson.

Carol had grown up in rural Osage County, where she attended the Pan Teg School until eighth grade, and then the family moved into Lyndon where she graduated from Lyndon High School in 1953. She had lived on the family farm since 1960.

Carol had attended KU for a semester and then began working for the telephone company in Topeka. She worked for the Lyndon Schools for a time in the lunchroom and then for Swanson Real Estate, in Lyndon. She then attended Emporia State University where she earned her Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy. She worked for Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka as a respiratory therapist for five years and then in the business office for 23 years. She was a member of the Osage City First Presbyterian Church.

On Oct. 6, 1957, Carol was married to Daryl Michael, in Lyndon.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband Daryl on Aug. 22, 2015; by a grandson, Cory Sprecker on Sept. 26, 2015, and by her parents.

Carol is survived by her two children, Mark (Cathy) Michael, of Buena Vista, Colo., and Kim (Devin) Sprecker, of Lyndon; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 22, at the Osage City First Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends on Monday for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Lyndon Cemetery.
