Thelma Swanson, 94, Lyndon: June 22, 1922 – Sept. 29, 2016

LYNDON, Kan. – Thelma Swanson, 94, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2016, at Sunset Manor, Waverly, Kan. She was born June 22, 1922, on the family farm southwest of Lyndon, Kan., the daughter of George and Gertrude Gordon Allison.

Thelma had lived most of her life in and around the Lyndon community, and graduated from Lyndon High School in 1939, receiving her Normal Training, and then teaching school for one year.

On June 24, 1939, Thelma was married to Harry Swanson, in Lawrence, Kan. Harry preceded her in death on Dec. 4, 2002.

She and her husband had operated a hatchery, and then the Swanson Agency in Lyndon until their retirement in 1978. She had been a member of the Lyndon American Legion Auxiliary and the Lyndon Order of the Eastern Star.

Thelma is survived by her daughter, Brenda (Ron) Groff, of Lyndon; a sister, Ada Bourne, Osage City; a granddaughter, Rhonda (Barry) Beets; and a great-granddaughter, Allison Young.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3, at the Feltner Funeral Chapel, Lyndon.  Burial will be in Lyndon Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time on Monday.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Lyndon Endowment Association, sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Ave., Lyndon, KS 66451.
