Isabel Phelon, 90, Melvern: Oct. 29, 1925 – Oct. 3, 2016

MELVERN, Kan. – Isabel Phelon, 90, passed away on Monday, Oct. 3, 2016, at Sunset Manor, in Waverly, Kan. She was born on Oct. 29, 1925, in Iola, Kan., the daughter of Earl and Adelia Andrews Lizer.

Isabel grew up in the Harris, Kan., and Garnett, Kan., area, and had lived on the farm west of Melvern, Kan., from 1954 to 2013. She had been in the assisted living in Osage City, Kan., and then in Waverly, Kan.

Isabel graduated from high school and began teaching at Humboldt, Kan., Iola and Garnett. She later received her Bachelor’s in Education from the Kansas State Teacher’s College in Emporia, and was a teacher and substitute teacher in the Melvern and Quenemo, Kan., schools.

She was a member of the Melvern United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, EHU, the Sunflower Steppers Square Dance group, was a member and then a leader for 4-H, and was a member and past president of Osage County Farm Bureau.

On Aug. 15, 1954, Isabel was married to Ed Phelon, in Harris, Kan.

Isabel was preceded in death by her husband, Ed, on Feb. 23, 2006; a daughter, Kay Haskins, on June 3, 2000, and her parents.

Isabel is survived by her son, Raylen (Karen) Phelon, of Melvern; two daughters, Janett Phelon, Lawrence, Kan., and Linda (Greg) Carson, Osage City; a son-in-law, David (Barb) Haskins, Osage City; a brother, Earl (Ann) Lizer, Garnett; and nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren with twins on the way.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at the Melvern United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, north of Lyndon. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Feltner Funeral Chapel, in Lyndon.

    My Son who lives in Carbondale sent me the site. I lived in Carbodale for many years. Do any of you remember the Mineral Springs north of Carbondale? The Jungmann Family.
