100616-josyehutchcroftA Lyndon seventh-grader has qualified as a runner-up in a national “miss” pageant, and is raising funds to travel to California to compete in the national competition during Thanksgiving week.

Josye Hutchcroft competed in the 2014 and 2016 National American Miss Kansas pageants, and this year she placed first runner-up in the spokesmodel competition, which qualified her to travel to the national pageant to begin Nov. 20 at Anaheim, Calif.

The National American Miss Pageants are held for girls’ ages 4 to 18, with five age divisions. Josye participated in the pre-teen age division, along with other girls from across Kansas. Emphasis is placed on developing self-confidence, learning good sportsmanship, and setting and achieving personal goals. Pageant activities and competitions are kept age-appropriate and focus on inner beauty.

To raise funds for her trip, a Texas Holdem tournament will be held at noon Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016, at Lyndon Community Center, 204 Topeka Ave., Lyndon.

Josye, the daughter of Robert and Dianna Hutchcroft, is involved in many activities at Lyndon Middle School including gymnastics, band, volleyball, theater and the Lyndon Leaders 4-H Club. She is also the recipient of the Spirit of America Award, and the Gold Award in advertising.
