Warren D. Lutz, 81, Lyndon: Nov. 23, 1934 – Oct. 25, 2016

LYNDON, Kan. – Warren D. Lutz, 81, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2016, at St. Francis Hospital, Topeka, Kan. He was born on Nov. 23, 1934, in Peabody, Kan., the son of Alvin and Mildred Savage Lutz.

Warren grew up in Florence, Kan., and had lived in Garnett, Kan., and Chanute, Kan., before moving to Lyndon, Kan., in 1969, where he has lived ever since.

Warren graduated from Garnett High School in 1952, and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Geology from Kansas University in 1957. He served in the U.S. Army and then began working for the U.S. Geological Survey making topographical maps. He became an engineering geologist for the Kansas Highway Department, in Chanute, and then worked for the Division of Water Resources, in Topeka, until his retirement in 1993.

He was a member of the Sports Car Club of America, the Kansas Mud Boggers, and the Competition Motor Sports, of which he won the championship in 1999. He was a member of the Burlington Masonic Lodge No. 66 and the Arab Shrine Oriental Band, all since 2005.

On Dec. 31, 1960, Warren was married to Maryanne Mazur in Trout Lake, Mich. They were divorced in 1994.

Warren is survived by his daughter, Kim Miner, of Topeka; a granddaughter, Brittany Burgess, Manhattan, Kan.; and his beloved companion, Claudia Hillmon, Osage City.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, at the Feltner Funeral Chapel, 818 Topeka Ave., Lyndon. Inurnment will be in Melvern Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. Sunday until service time.
