Letter to Editor: Arvonia benefits from your donation during Emporia match day

Dear Editor:

The Arvonia Historic Preservation Society has been chosen for the second year to be a part of Emporia Community Foundation’s Match Day. This is quite an honor and a good opportunity for us to raise funds for our work in the Arvonia community. We have two projects we will be working on in the near future.

The first is the restoration of the pews and desks. Although we have a Heritage Trust Fund grant, this is a part of the project that they will not fund. We will also be starting work on the Arvonia Town Hall next year. This is a big project that will benefit the community and surrounding area as we will have a building with plumbing that can be used for events.

Match Day gives you the opportunity to donate and a certain percentage of that money to be matched. We would love for you to stop by and see us Monday at the Flinthills Mall. We will be giving out samples of Welsh cakes. If you don’t live in the area or can’t visit us that day, checks can be dated for Nov. 14, 2016, and sent to: AHPS, 8090 W. 323rd St., Osage City, KS 66523, or to the Emporia Community Foundation. Make checks payable to the Emporia Community Foundation and put Arvonia in the memo.

If you have questions you may call Susan at 620-794-3917, or Lonnie at the Emporia Community Foundation. Their website and information can be found at www.emporiacf.org.

Thank you for your consideration.

Susan Evans Atchison
