Injured suspect arrested after early morning break-in attempt near Melvern
The Osage County Sheriff has reported that a man was stabbed in rural Melvern this morning after an attempted break in at a residence.
In a press release, Osage County Sheriff Laurie Dunn said that at around 3:30 a.m. today, Nov. 14, 2016, a 911 caller reported a break-in in progress at 4592 E. 309th St., Melvern. It was reported that one person had been stabbed and the suspect had fled from the scene.
The suspect, identified as Jason Steele, 35, of Kansas City, Kan., was located a short time later, and was taken into custody without incident. Steele was transported to Stormont Vail Hospital, Topeka, and was treated for injuries he received during the confrontation with the victim. Steele is in custody at the Osage County Jail, and is being held on charges of aggravated burglary, aggravated battery and other charges.
One of the homeowners was also transported to Stormont Vail Hospital, with a condition considered non-life threatening. Another homeowner received minor injuries and declined medical treatment.
The investigation is ongoing and all charges are pending at this time, with reports to be sent to the Osage County Attorney later today for formal charges.
