NWS issues winter storm warning for NE Kansas

A National Weather Service winter storm warning remains in effect for Osage County and northeast Kansas, with the NWS predicting a significant winter storm will impact the region tonight through 6 p.m. Thursday
Tonight, snow is expected to continue to spread eastward across north central into northeast Kansas through the overnight hours. Rapid and significant accumulation will develop around sunrise and continue through the morning into early afternoon hours.
Total snow and ice accumulations are predicted to be about 15 inches in north central Kansas to about 8 inches south of Interstate 35, with locally higher amounts possible.
East winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts to around 30 mph are expected through early afternoon Thursday with decreasing speeds toward 6 pm.
Travel will be difficult if not impossible due to heavy blowing snowfall and snow packed roads. Visibility will be near zero at times. Snowfall rates of 1 to 3 inches per hour will make roads very difficult to clear. Any travel is strongly discouraged.
