Mildred Greene, 84, Carbondale: March 17, 1932 – Nov. 17, 2016

CARBONDALE, Kan. – Mildred Greene, 84, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 17, 2016, at the Brookside Retirement Community, Overbrook, Kan. She was born on March 17, 1932, in Lyndon, Kan., the daughter of Warren and Marilyn Cody Roberts.

Mildred grew up between Lyndon and Osage City, Kan., and had lived in Osage City for several years. She lived in Carbondale, Kan., for the last 53 years.

Mildred was a homemaker and an owner and operator of Greene Sanitation. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, was a bingo fanatic, auction queen and outstanding mom.

On January 28, 1950, Mildred was married to Kenneth Greene, in Lyndon.

Mildred was preceded in death by a grandson, Randall Lee “Cracker” Greene II; her parents, Warren and Marilyn; two brothers, Joe Roberts and Jack Roberts; and four sisters, Olive Moore, Dale Visnosky, Goldie Lynn and Shirley Watts.

Mildred is survived by her six children, Rhonda (Donald) Thompson, Carbondale, Michael (Sherry) Greene, Topeka, Kan., Becky (Joe) Heinz, Carbondale, Randall (Gayla) Greene, Topeka, Joe (Joyce) Greene, Carbondale, and Tim (Beth) Greene, Carbondale; four brothers, “Moody” Roberts, Kenneth Roberts, Bob Roberts and Bill Roberts; two sisters, Jean Ellis and Peggy Lira; 14 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mildred will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 21, at the Carbondale Church of Christian Fellowship. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be in the Carbondale Cemetery.
