National Weather Service Topeka warns winter weather is coming

Winter Weather Awareness Day for northeast Kansas is Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016. The National Weather Service selects a day each fall to remind Kansans of the risks and ways to reduce hazards associated with winter weather. Many people often find themselves unprepared for the onset of snow, ice and cold weather that come with the winter season.

Knowledge and preparation are essential to reducing your risk, and this year’s awareness day focuses on the hazards associated with driving in ice and snow.

Winter weather preparedness and safety information is available at the National Weather Service Topeka’s Winter Awareness Day website NWS offices serving Kansas will also be providing information via social media including Twitter on Dec. 1 using the hashtag #KSwinter.
