TULSA, Okla. – Agnes Augusta Payne, 77, died Friday, Dec. 23, 2016, in Tulsa, Okla. She was born Oct. 1, 1939, in Osage City, Kan., to Elmer George and Vanerva Marie Harper Ard.
Agnes was reared and educated in Osage City and was a graduate of Osage City High School. She was married to Allen Keith Payne, July 30, 1960, in Osage City. She spent much of her working life as a sewing machine operator, and even in her pastime she enjoyed crocheting. She particularly enjoyed watching Kansas Jayhawk basketball.
Loving family members include son and daughter-in-law; Rodger Allen and Christine Payne, of Louisville, Ky.; daughter and son-in-law, Gina and John Merrill, Tulsa; grandchildren, Claire Payne, Chapel Hill, N.C., Cathleen Payne, Louisville, Grace Merrill, Tulsa, and Michael Merrill, of Guatemala; two brothers, Merle Ard and wife, Jean, Topeka, Kan., Jack Ard and wife, Sharon, Carbondale, Kan.; two sisters, Lois Gurtler and husband, Roger, and Verna Morris and husband Raymond, all of Osage City; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Ard.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and five siblings, Elmer Ard, Edwin Ard, Ethel Payne, Edith Bridgewater and Bobby Ard.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016, at Mowery Funeral Service, Owasso, Okla. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016, at the Mowery Funeral Service Chapel, Owasso, with Pastor Vance Wiley officiating. Committal service and interment will follow at Graceland Memorial Park Cemetery, Owasso.
