There’s something for everyone during the 2017 Osage County Spring Fling

Students from across Osage County won’t be able to complain about nothing to do during upcoming spring break, with the Osage County Interagency Coalition coordinating the 2017 Osage County Spring Fling.

Spring Fling offers activities for youth during spring break. It kicks off this Friday with a St. Patrick’s Day celebration at Lyndon Carnegie Library; see the schedule of activities at locations around the county below. Please note that pre-registration is required for a few of the classes by Tuesday, March 14. To pre-register, reply by email or phone to the organization providing the class you would like to attend.

Friday, March 17

  • St. Patrick’s Day at the Lyndon Carnegie Library, 1-2 p.m. Celebrate with a craft and green food fun! Location: Lyndon Carnegie Library, 127 E. Sixth St., Lyndon. Ages: preschool to fourth grade; limit: none

Monday, March 20

  • Fun with Puppets, sponsored by Drug Free Osage County, 10-11:30 a.m. Participants will work with puppets and team up to write and perform a skit about making good choices. A meal will be provided for the Fun with Puppets class by the Osage County Help House 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. There is no cost to participate in this class, but pre-registration is required by Tuesday, March 14. Call the Extension office at 785-828-4438. Location: Frontier Extension District Office, 128 W. 15th St., Lyndon. Ages: Sixth through eighth grade; limit: 12.
  • Dive Deep at Vacation Bible School with First Baptist Church, Lyndon, 9-11:30 a.m., Monday through Friday. Explore the Bible while going on an underwater adventure filled with songs, games, crafts, plus snacks. Pre-registration is required by Tuesday, March 14.   • Play a Game at the Osage City Public Library, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Drop by and pick out a game to play in the library. A meal will be provided at the library from 12-12:30 p.m. for youth 18 years of age and younger. Location: Osage City Public Library, 515 Main St., Osage City. Ages: all ages; limit: none.

Tuesday, March 21

  • Magician Show sponsored by East Central Kansas Aging and Disability Resource Center, 1:30 p.m. Enjoy a magic show performed by Joe Stringer. Location: Osage County Senior Center, 604 Market St., in Osage City. Ages: all ages; limit: none.
  • Make It Take It Craft Day with Osage County Head Start, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Osage County Head Start will be providing crafts and snacks along with their open application day. Location: Santa Fe Depot, 508 Market St., Osage City. Ages: open to all; limit: none.
  • Art Adventures with the Osage City Public Library, 1:30-2:30 p.m. Drop by the library and create your own canvas string art graffiti. Please wear play clothes as paint will be used. No sign up is necessary. A meal will be provided at the library from 12-12:30 p.m. for youth 18 years of age and younger. Location: Osage City Public Library, 515 Main St., Osage City. Ages: 5 and older; limit: none.

Wednesday, March 22

  • Watch a movie at the Lyndon Carnegie Library, 1-3 p.m. Stop by the library to watch a newly released G rated movie. The afternoon will also include drinks and popcorn. Location: Lyndon Carnegie Library, 127 E. Sixth St., Lyndon. Ages: pre-school to fourth grade; limit: none.
  • Bread and Jam Class sponsored by the Frontier Extension District, 1:30-4 p.m. Youth will learn about the bread making process in a fun way by making bread in a bag rather than using a mixer or a bowl. Additionally, youth will have the opportunity to make strawberry jam. Each participant will take home a small loaf of whole wheat bread to share with their family. There is no cost to participate in this class, but pre-registration is required by Tuesday, March 14. Call the Extension office at 785-828-4438, or email crichmon@ksu.edu.   • A meal will be provided for bread and jam class participants by the Osage County Help House from 1-1:30 p.m. During the meal, Osage County SOS will offer an internet safety activity.
  • Rethink Your Drink, sponsored by the Burlingame Public Library, 3-3:30 p.m. Participants will discover how much sugar is really in that drink and learn how to make super tasty smoothies. A meal, provided by Kids Café, will follow the event for children 0-18. The last meal will be served at 4:20 p.m. Location: Burlingame Public Library, 122 W. Santa Fe Ave., Burlingame. Ages: all ages; limit: none
  • Lego Hour sponsored by the Osage City Public Library, 1:30-2:30 p.m. Come and build a city, pyramid, or whatever you would like to make. Your creation will be put on display for all to see. A meal will be provided at the library from 12-12:30 p.m. for youth 18 years of age and younger. Location: Osage City Public Library, 515 Main St., Osage City. Ages: all ages and families; limit: none.

Thursday, March 23

  • Play a Game at the Osage City Public Library, 10 a.m.to 7 p.m. Drop by and pick out a game to play in the library. A meal will be provided at the library from 12-12:30 p.m. for youth 18 years of age and younger. Location: Osage City Public Library, 515 Main St., Osage City. Ages: all ages; limit: none.

Friday, March 24

  • Cancelled (Update March 22) – DIY Stress Ball, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Youth will learn fun ways to manage stress, anxiety and frustration with a brief, interactive presentation followed by making their very own stress ball. A free lunch for participants will be provided at the end of the activity. There is no cost for this event, but pre-registration is required by Tuesday, March 14. To pre-register, call 620-343-2211. Location: CrossWinds, 608 Holliday St., Osage City. Ages: 8 to 18; limit: 20.
  • Girls Retreat sponsored by the Osage City Public Library, 1:30-2:30 p.m. Come and enjoy an hour just for girls. There will be crafts, snacks, and time to do your nails. A meal will be provided at the library from 12-12:30 p.m. for youth 18 years of age and younger. Location: Osage City Public Library, 515 Main St., Osage City. Ages: 13 to 17 girls; limit: none.
