Suspect Lyon County measles case determined to be negative

Lab results are negative for a suspected case of measles in Lyon County. After a student at William Allen White Elementary School had measles-like symptoms, local healthcare personnel conducted testing and reported the case as suspect to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.

With KDHE’s guidance, staff members at the Flint Hills Community Health Center took steps to protect residents who might have been in contact with the child, including students and staff members at the school.

“As soon as we heard about this case, we stepped into action to protect residents who might have been affected,” said Phillip Davis, FHCHC CEO and Lyon County health officer. “We are relieved the case was negative and these residents aren’t at risk of contracting measles.”
