Clark Crew takes grand champion honors at Smoke in the Spring for second year

Travis Clark and the Clark Crew have taken grand champion for the second year in a row at the 2017 Smoke in the Spring State BBQ Championship. Corey Linton, Smoke in the Spring organizer, right, presents the award to Clark Saturday, as the annual contest came to a close. As part of this year’s grand champion prize, Clark also won a “Golden Ticket” to the World Food Championship in November.

Saturday’s win marks the second time in two years the Yukon, Okla., based family barbecue team left Osage City as the grand champions of  Smoke in the Spring. Clark Crew BBQ was designated as the 2015 Kansas City Barbeque Society Team of the Year.

The team took home the top prize of $3,000 by placing 14th in chicken, 36th in pork ribs, second in pork, and third in brisket.

Winning reserve champion, and $1,500 in prize money, was The Smoking Hills, with head cook Loren Hill, of Overland Park.
