News from the city
Overbrook City Council voted unanimously to approve four new city ordinances related to unlawful possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The city now has additional authority to prosecute individuals charged with possession of those materials.
City public works notice
Fire hydrants all across town are regularly opened to allow flushing of water lines. If you see a hydrant open and draining, do not shut it off! Damage to the hydrant and to the water lines can occur. If you have a concern, contact the Overbrook maintenance department at 785-806-9502.
Sealed bids taken on old police car
Overbrook Police Department has replaced a 2005 Ford police car with a newer model used vehicle purchased from the Kansas Highway Patrol. It will be in service starting this month. The 2005 blue Ford will be sold by sealed bid. Anyone with an interest in submitting a bid should inquire at Overbrook City Hall.
Citywide limb pickup
A citywide limb pickup will be Saturday, April 15. Tree limbs must be cut and stacked at curbside. Anyone can help by meeting at the Kansas State Bank parking lot at 9 a.m. If you burn leaves, check with city hall for burn ban before you burn.
Citywide garage sales
Let’s get our town ready for citywide garage sales, Saturday, April 22 (some start on Friday, April 21). Overbrook PRIDE organizes this annual event and also holds its annual plant sale at the old gym that same Friday and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
An e-waste collection, will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at Santa Fe Trail High School, where electronics and appliances will be accepted for disposal and recycling. With citywide garage sales that same day, you can take e-waste items to the high school on Friday afternoon, April 21. And if you’re unable, volunteers will pick up items at your home 3-5 p.m. Friday afternoon. Call city hall before noon that day to schedule.
Baseball and tee-ball
Overbrook Park & Recreation Commission – Summer youth baseball and tee-ball teams are being formed with 113 kids signed up! First games are in late May. Call Melissa at 785-640-2422 for details.
Upcoming Overbrook city election will be for Overbrook City Council and mayor. Candidates can now file at Osage County Clerk’s office in Lyndon.
