Joye May, 83, Vassar: Oct. 22, 1933 – April 13, 2017

VASSAR, Kan. – Joye May, 83, passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2017, at her home near Vassar, Kan. She was born on Oct. 22, 1933, in Dougherty, Okla., the daughter of Thaddeus and Jessie Wilkens Gardenhire.

Joye had lived in Topeka, Kan., and had lived on Lake Pomona near Vassar for the last 42 years. She had been a homemaker, and was a member of the Vassar United Methodist Church.

On July 27, 1957, Joye was married to Gentry May, in Hugoton, Kan.

Joye was preceded in death by her parents, Thaddeus and Jessie; and a sister, Jean Crabtree.

Joye is survived by her husband, Gentry, of the home; son, Gentry May Jr., Topeka; daughter, Lisa May, of the home; brother, Gary Gardenhire; sister, Gay Crabtree; and seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 22, at the Vassar United Methodist Church.
