OCPR Update: Tykes tee off for tee-ball; signup for lifeguard, WSI, swim lessons, football, yoga

OCPR-logo-redIn less than a month, Osage City Aquatic Center will be open for recreation and water safety training, and Osage City Parks and Recreation is gearing up for a summer full of fun. On OCPR’s upcoming schedule are tee-ball, youth football, lifeguard and water safety training, swim lessons, and yoga.

OCPR Tee-Ball
For children age 3, 4, 5

  • Players need to turn 3 by May 1, 2017, to participate
  • Cost is $20 per player
  • OCPR tee-ball is a parent interactive program, meaning all parents are invited to help with this program. Tee-ball coaches are in charge of each game, making sure player positions are rotated and the batting order is set.
  • A head coach is selected by OCPR and the remaining parents serve as assistant coaches for the team.
  • Each team has a roster limit of 10 players.
  • Games are 45 minutes or 3 innings.
  • Each team bats everyone and then players rotate to the field for defense.
  • Team practice can start after the deadline, once teams are put together and a head coach is assigned.
  • Games begin the week of June 5.
  • Teams play 6 games, game dates are TBD, based on the number of teams participating.
  • Game times are 6 p.m. or 7 p.m.
  • A game schedule will be sent out a week prior to the start of the season.
  • Signup deadline, May 12.

Lifeguard Instructor Training – WSI Certification – Lifeguard & CPR Recertification – Lifeguard Training

Lifeguard Training

  • May 24-26, 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
  • May 27 & 28, 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
  • Cost is $150.
  • Instructor, Jordan Tice.
  • Students will be given a break for lunch.
  • Includes First Aid and CPR.
  • Attendance required each day.
  • Must be 15 to take the class.
  • Signup deadline May 5.

WSI Certification

  • May 29-31 and June 6-9, 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
  • Cost is $150.
  • Instructor, Lynn Tice.
  • Attendance required each day.
  • Must be 16 to take the class.
  • Signup deadline May 12.

Lifeguard and CPR Recertification

  • May 22, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
  • Cost is $50.
  • Instructors, Lynn Tice and Jordan Tice.
  • Deadline is May 19.

Osage City Swim Team
For swimmers age 6-18, a swimmer’s age is their age on or before July 2, 2016.

Swim team pre-requisite: MUST be able to swim the length of the OCAC pool WITHOUT stopping. MUST have Completed Level 3 Red Cross Swim Lessons

  • Swim team practice starts the week of June 12
  • Meet schedule, July 1 – 22
  • Swim team parent/swimmer meeting – May 7, 7 p.m., OCAC. This is a mandatory meeting for both parents and swimmers. Swim suit sizes and shirt/tank top sizes will be taken.
  • Anyone not able to attend MUST meet with Letisha DeBaun prior to their first practice
  • Fee, $60 per swimmer.
  • “Practice swimmers” only, $30 per swimmer.

Red Cross Swim Lessons

Session One, June 19-29.

  • 9-9:45 a.m., Level 1 (Must be 6 years old), Level 2.
  • 10-10:45 a.m., Level 3, 5, preschool.
  • 11-11:45, Level 2, 4, preschool.
  • 12-12:30 p.m., Parent Tot (6 months-2 years).
  • Signup deadline, June 12.
  • Cost is $25 per swimmer per session.

Session Two, July 10-20

  • 9-9:45 a.m., Level 1 (Must be 6 years old), Level 2.
  • 10-10:45 a.m., Level 3, 5, preschool.
  • 11-11:45, Level 2, 4, preschool.
  • 12-12:30, Parent Tot (6 months-2 years).
  • Signup deadline, July 3.

Private Lessons

Session One, June 12-16, a.m. only.
Session Two, July 3-7, a.m. only.

  • OCAC staff will contact you about a time during the session selected.
  • Other times may be available (Contact OCAC).
  • $40 per week (one week equal five 30-minute lessons).
  • Contact OCAC (starting May 27) to signup.
  • Pre-school sessions, pre-K swimmers (age 3-5) will be evaluated their first session and then placed in the appropriate group.
  • A minimum of 4 swimmers is needed for a class to make.
  • Swim lessons are Monday-Thursday ONLY.
  • Friday will be used as a make-up day as needed.
  • Lessons WILL NOT be held if the air temperature is below 70 degrees.
  • Private swim lessons – Contact OCAC, starting May 27, for a private swim lesson form.

Group Swim Lessons

Group swim lesson forms are available online at www.osagecity.com, at the Osage City Facebook Page (Photos Section) and Osage City Hall. Starting May 27, group swim lesson forms will be available at OCAC.

OCAC Pool Hours: May 27-August 6, Monday-Friday, 1-7 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 1-6 p.m.; Aug. 7 – Labor Day, Saturday and Sunday, 1-6 p.m. (includes Labor Day).

Vinyasa Flow Yoga

  • A flowing, dynamic sequence of poses.
  • Wear comfortable clothes.
  • All levels are welcome (especially beginners).

  • A child’s grade is their grade for the 2017-208 school year.

4th-6th Grade

  • July 24-28, 1-2 p.m.
  • $25 per student.
  • 4 students minimum and 15 students maximum.

7th-12th Grade

  • July 24-28, 2-3 p.m.
  • $25 per student.
  • 4 students minimum and 20 students maximum.
