OCPR Update: Kids get ready to swim, create, sing and tumble your way through summer

OCPR-logo-redOsage City Parks and Recreation is ready for summer, with the aquatic center set to open May 27, 2017. Along with a schedule of swimming lessons, OCPR is also scheduling summer art camps, junior musical camps, and gymnastics camps.

Osage City Aquatic Center

  • OCAC Pool Hours: May 27-August 6, Monday-Friday, 1-7 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 1-6 p.m.; August 7-Labor Day, Saturday and Sunday, 1-6 p.m. (includes Labor Day)
  • Daily admission, $3 (Age 4 and above); age 3 and below FREE; age 65 and over FREE
  • OCAC Swim Pass Booklets – Swim Booklets go on sale at Osage City Hall May 22 and are available for purchase at OCAC starting May 27; 50 Swim Card Booklet, $50.
  • Deck and pool rental reservation can be made with Corey Linton before to May 27

Red Cross Swim Lessons

Session One, June 19-29

  • 9-9:45 a.m., Level 1 (Must be 6 years old), Level 2
  • 10-10:45 a.m., Level 3, 5, Preschool
  • 11-11:45 a.m., Level 2, 4, Preschool
  • 12-12:30 p.m., Parent Tot (6 months-2 years)
  • Signup deadline, June 12
  • Cost is $25 per swimmer per session

Session Two, July 10-20

  • 9-9:45 a.m., Level 1 (Must be 6 years old), Level 2
  • 10-10:45 a.m., Level 3, 5, Pre-School
  • 11-11:45, Level 2, 4, Pre-School
  • 12-12:30, Parent Tot (6 months-2 years)
  • SIGN-UP DEADLINE, July 3
  • Cost is $25 per swimmer per session

Private Lessons

  • Session 1, June 12-16, AM Only
  • Session 2, July 3-7, AM Only
  • OCAC Staff will contact you about a time during the session selected
  • Other times may be available (Contact OCAC)
  • $40 per week (one week equals five 30-minute lessons)

Contact OCAC starting May 28 to signup

  • Pre-school sessions, pre-k swimmers (Age 3-5) will be evaluated their first session and then placed in the appropriate group.
  • A minimum of 4 swimmers is needed for a class to make
  • Swim Lessons are Monday-Thursday ONLY
  • Friday will be used as a Make-Up Day (as needed)
  • Lessons WILL NOT be held if the air temperature is below 70 degrees
  • Contact OCAC starting May 27 for a private swim lesson form

Group Swim Lessons

  • Group swim lesson forms are available online at www.osagecity.com, at the Osage City Facebook Page (Photos Section) and Osage City Hall
  • Starting May 27, Group Swim Lesson forms will be available at OCAC

OCPR Summer Art Camps

Instructor, Becky Weaver (USD 348 High School Art Instructor)

  • Camp Location Osage City Community Building (Jones Park)
  • A child’s grade is based on their grade for the 2017-2018 school year.
  • Art can be messy, please dress appropriately.
  • All of the projects will be available to take home.
  • Both 2D and 3D work and projects may include, painting, drawing, printing, clay.

Pre-K

  • July 10-13
  • 11-11:30 a.m.
  • $20 per student

K-2nd Grade

  • July 10-13
  • 9-9:45 a.m.
  • $25 per student

3rd-8th Grade

  • July 10-13
  • 10-10:45 a.m.
  • $25 per student

Alice in Wonderland Junior Musical Camp

  • Pre-K-2nd Grade
  • July 24-28, 10-11 a.m.
  • $20 per child

3rd-6th Grade

  • July 24-28, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
  • $30 per child
  • 3rd-6th grade students must bring a sack lunch.
  • A snack is provided.

Casting Session (3rd-6th grade only)

  • 3rd-6th grade students must attend one casting session
  • Students should be prepared to sing a short song
  • June 11, 6:30 p.m., OCHS Auditorium
  • June 12, 2 p.m., OCHS Auditorium
  • After casting, students will receive a CD and script

Students will be given a book and CD to memorize their parts prior to the start of camp. The camp will be used for staging, set design and costumes, rehearsal, and guest speakers. Parents are responsible for costumes, we will keep them simple and easy.

  • Signup deadline for all grades, June 12.

  • A child’s grade is based on their grade for the 2017-2018 school year.
  • Stretching, gymnastic skills and technique, games, and safe equipment
  • No shoes or socks on the equipment (bare feet during class)
  • T-shirt tucked in or a shirt that stays down while upside down
