Kenneth Eugene Newton Jr., 69, Reading: April 18, 1948 – May 27, 2017

READING, Kan. – Kenneth E. Newton Jr., 69, Reading, Kan., passed away Saturday, May 27, 2017, at Emporia Presbyterian Manor, Emporia, Kan. He was born April 18, 1948, in Emporia, the son of Kenneth E. and Helen Marie (Geraghty) Newton Sr.

Kenneth graduated from Reading High School in 1966.

Kenneth was joined in marriage to Mary Ann Jones on July 11, 1970, in Emporia.

Kenneth owned and operated Newton Oil Company and also worked as an auctioneer and woodworker. He was a member of the Lions Club, Jaycees and Eagles, and was a Reading City Council member. He volunteered with 4-H woodworking.

Kenneth will be forever remembered by his wife, Mary Ann, of the home; a daughter, Janell (Bill) Kewley, Cottonwood Falls, Kan.; a son, Mark (Janella) Newton, Waverly, Kan.; two sisters, Teresa (Rex) Arb, Melvern, Kan., and Cheryl (Dan) Welch, Princeton, Kan.; and four grandchildren, Shane Newton, Jake Newton, Madison Kinkaid and Colton Kewley.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of life service will held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 2, at the Reading Elementary School gymnasium, at Reading. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday evening at Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home, 107 W. Sixth St., Lebo.
