Just another buzzy Saturday afternoon in Osage City

A passerby noticed a swarm of bees that had moved into a trash receptacle Saturday afternoon at the corner of Sixth and Market streets, in Osage City, and reported it to the Osage City Police Department. According to Osage City Police Officer Tom Harm, Linda and Richard Hummel, beekeepers from Overbrook, were called to remove the bees. The bees were safely removed and transported to a hive on the Hummels’ bee farm. In the beekeeper’s suit, Linda Hummel coaxes the bees into a plastic container holding bee hive frames and sugar water.
The Hummels welcome calls about collecting wild bee swarms, and also sell honey through their business Crow Canyon Honey. They can be contacted at 785-665-7053.
